HarshLab has successfully hosted the offshore demonstration of the K66 connector, a key milestone within the KONEKTA2 project aimed at developing innovative electrical connection solutions for floating offshore wind applications.
The operation demonstrated the rapid and efficient connection of a floating platform using a representative 66 kV electrical configuration, highlighting the feasibility of advanced offshore connection systems under realistic operating conditions.
The full demonstration, including boarding, transit to HarshLab, electrical connection and return to port, was completed in just three hours, showcasing the practicality and operational efficiency of the K66 concept.
To replicate conditions representative of future floating wind farms, the demonstration employed a 66 kV dynamic cable supplied by Hengtong Group, enabling the validation of the K66 connector in a realistic offshore scenario.
Key achievements
- Successful offshore validation of the K66 connector concept.
- Demonstration completed in only three hours from mobilization to return to port.
- Testing performed in a representative 66 kV floating offshore wind configuration.
- Validation carried out at HarshLab under real marine operating conditions.
- Demonstration of HarshLab’s capability as a platform for testing and validating offshore electrical systems.
This achievement was made possible through the collaboration of DITREL Industrial, Hengtong Group, CDA International and TECNALIA Offshore Renewable Energy, reinforcing HarshLab’s role as a unique offshore infrastructure for the development, testing and validation of innovative renewable energy technologies.
