1 September 2020. The final call for the EU-funded MaRINET2 project opens today, targeted at offshore energy technology developers who are looking to test their device or components. The project offers fully-funded access to a world-leading network of testing and research infrastructures in Europe. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Open until 16 October, the fifth and final call will grant access to a number of research and testing facilities, for developers of offshore wind, wave and tidal energy systems and components. Applicants should check the list of available facilities<\/a> to see which ones are being offered under this call.<\/p>\n

So far, MaRINET2 has awarded almost \u20ac5 million in free testing access, across a network of 57 world-leading research facilities across Europe. The project\u2019s objective is to accelerate the progress of the European offshore renewables sector towards full-scale industrialisation.<\/p>\n

Initially scheduled for June 2020, the call timetable has been postponed due to Covid-related delays. An updated timetable<\/a>, and a webinar recording<\/a> to assist candidates with their application and share updates on the process, are available on the project website.<\/p>\n

MaRINET2 Project Coordinator, Dr Jimmy Murphy, University College Cork said: \u201cAs we open the final call, I am delighted with the success of the project to date. This sector has demonstrated its resilience in the face of the Covid-19 crisis and is poised to play a big role in Europe\u2019s energy mix. Providing developers with access to some of the world\u2019s best test facilities and expertise is a big part of kick-starting this new European industry.\u201d<\/p>\n

Christophe Maisondieu, MaRINET2 Access Coordinator, Ifremer added: \u201cHundreds of projects have already benefitted from the MaRINET2 and MaRINET programmes and the project team is looking forward to working with a new set of developers under this last call. Putting new technologies through their paces is essential to produce reliable, effective machines, and to reduce project risks.\u201d<\/p>\n

An open call for virtual access<\/a> to data sets and a free-of-charge training programme<\/a> are also available through the project.<\/p>\n
